Dever Broncos are Super Bowl Bound

1987 AFC Championship Game vs. Cleveland Browns
as illustrated on the Front cover of Sports illustrated
Jan. 17, 1988 Denver 23 Cleveland 20

"The Drive"

John Elway has now become the first Denver Bronco's player to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.

One of the defining moments in John Elway's career was the 98 yard fourth quarter drive in the AFC playoff game against Cleveland Jan. 11 1986 : Denver 23, at Cleveland 20.

Denver won the game in overtime after John Elway engineered a drive of 98 yards in 15 plays ending in a 5-yard pass to Mark Jackson with the score at (13:20) to tie the game. Rich Karlis 33-yard FG in overtime won the game for the Denver Broncos. As a result of this drive the Denver Bronco's would go to the Super Bowl to face the Washington Redskins.

No one in the history of the NFL is better know for fourth quarter heroics than John Elway. The statistics of John's Career tell the story better than any sports commentator can describe. The magnitude of John's accomplishments and leadership on the field are Legendary. During his career John Elway engineered 40 fourth quarter winning drives to provide the margin of victory for the Denver Broncos and added 7 game tying drives.

John's Stats Sheet:
40 fourth-quarter game winning drives
& seven game-tying drives.

Ultimately under John's leadership on the football field the Denver Broncos were successful at winning two consecutive Super Bowl victories in 1998 and 1999. It was John Elway's choice to retire following his second Super Bowl victory forever sealing the question to the realm of speculation as to whether he could create three consecutive Superbowl wins.

John's unique ability and competitive drive is the heart of his Hall of Fame career in the NFL. John Elway because of his unique competitive spirit has been given the enviable title of:
