Transmogrification
of a Squashed Bug

A
flying insect insisted on disturbing my concentration while
painting. Armed with a colleague’s published scholarly
article, the insect decorated the latter with its body parts.
(The first word of the painting’s title is intentionally
affected in order to heighten a scholarly allusion, whereas
the status of the “insect” was socially lowered
to “bug” by my annoyed attitude) One set of wings
flew off to one side while the head seemed to split into two
heads—one almost human and the other insectean still
retaining its antennae.
